Bad Right Choice by Keegan
I lay him down by the water.
Those lapping waves seemed to do justice.
But in the steady silence between meeting of shore and sea,
I saw the dull repetition in store, and scoffed.
"Not by my watch, watchmaker, I shall force adventure where before it would not lie!"
I pulled him to me, not allowing a single driplet of water to mar his unruly mane.
And expelling the previously unbearable exhaustion, led him, limp, (and heavy for it) away.
Dressed in my favorite coat, he looked almost excited to be there.
I knew, lingering above, he was.
We rode the train out of frisco, eyes on the horizon darkening.
The events of that evening will remain forever silent save for ears of his or my own posession, but in those few hours, his last adventure was had. Unconstrained by the rigor that set in.
Tediously, we boarded a train lined back the opposite.
And when, for the second time, I lay him down by water's edge... It was without regret.
Sinking away into oblivion, I swear I saw a smile cross his face.
