Main story

KIO awoke from his slumber, anticipating the perrilous journey that awaited him in the coming weeks. Today was the day, the day that the mages elite had to go to The Eastern Watch and protect the civilians that lay within its defensive walls and later move on to destroy the Dark portal. The Eastern Watch had reported that the Demon attacks were increasing and that evil magi had joined the demons ranks and so the Mages Elite was born. The Mages Elite consisted of 5 combat mages and 2 healing mages, each very skilled in their specific class. Kio was there leader and commander, even though he was only 18. He had only just graduated from mage training when he was accepted as their leader and superior.
-He quickly got dressed into a white t-shirt and wore a black shirt over that. He didnt like the formal robes that they were supposed to wear, so he encouraged his squad members to dress in their casual garments. He walked down the stairs of his apartment block, skipping slightly, and out into the open air and the blue sky dotted with various white and grey clouds. He started to make his way towards the Grand Mages office, weaving between people in the crowd, that had been gathering for the daily work routines, to report for duty. As he approached the Grand mage's building, he sighed to himself, he never liked going to the Grand Mage, even though he was his foster father. It was not the biggest building, but it was elegantly crafted from an unknown rock that had been found somewhere near the Arctic. Kio strolled in through the elegantly crafted wooden doors and turned down the right hand corridor towards the Grand Mage's office. He rapped on the door twice until he heard a familiar voice from within commanding him to enter.Kio did as he was told and entered the room, staring at the Grand Mage and bowing his head politely. Medan was already waiting inside, patiently waiting for him to report. Medan was a good member of the squad, he was very adaptable and skilled in many weapons and schools of magic. Medan had started out as a jack of all schools and was looked down upon by the teachers but he quickly learned and became close to mastering them all before he was drafted into the Mage's Elite, where he decided to leave his training until after the current mission's objective was completed.
-"You and Medan will go in first and set up the defenses using the ordinary mages already there." said the Grand Mage, looking up to greet him, getting straight down to business.
"Okay." replied Kio.
"Wait we're going in without the medic mages?" asked Medan, a slight tone of worry in his voice.
"Yeah its the usual procedure. We dont train enough medic mages so we cant risk losing them." said Kio, answering the question. Medan was about to speak but his mouth closed after the Grand Mage dismissed them.
"You are dismissed." stated the Grand Mage, finishing the meeting. Kio walked slowly through the door, with Medan following behind, and down the corridor and out into the open air again.
-Kio and Medan walked towards the portal building, a slight march in there step.
"But this is a major checkpoint and we are the best the Mages Guild has to offer." protested Medan, he had started an arguement about why the Medic Mages werent coming in with them.
"Which is even more of a reason that we can protect oursleves and besides you've been trained in basic medical magic." replied Kio, still looking forward to the building ahead. He was so used to people arguing with him about the decisions the Grand Mage makes. He defended the Grand Mage even when he felt that the decision was wrong, it was a natural reflex that had been the result of his foster fathers care.
"Why do you always defend him?" Asked Medan, trying to find a weak point in Kio's armor.
"Because I believe that he is making the right decision." replied Kio, he had said that so often it believed it was true, it was part of the defensive reflex.
"We both know that is a lie. You do it because he raised you." stated Medan, curiously, he was waiting for Kio's reaction.
"That is only part of the reason." kio countered, coldly. He was upset that Medan had tried to hit below the belt. "He is my foster father but that doesnt change my judgement."
"Okay fine. I have to do what you say anyway." grumbled Medan, loudly as they neared the building. The portal buildinng was quite large and was made out of the same uknown stone as the Grand Mage's building. The engravings were in an old language that only mages spoke. The words “Man can live with about forty days without food, about three days without water, about eight minutes without air, but only for one second without hope.” were engraved, in the language, over the large wooden doors, that swung open to let you in. It was truly majestic.
-They walked into the portal building and walked up to the receptionists desk. "Hello Kio where to today?" asked the receptionist, curiously.
"Hello Gladys. We're going to the Eastern Watch." replied Kio.
"Oh so you're part of the Mage's Elite?" asked Gladys, seemingly oblivious to everything around her, except Kio.
"Remember Gladys I'm the leader." said Kio, slowly, trying to rejog her memory. Gladys had always acted like a mother to him, but she had a very bad memory after one of her missions, which involved an ogre demon and a very large club.
"I'll be sure to remember to put that on your tombstone." she muttered quietly.
"Sorry?" asked Kio, concerned. he thought he heard the word "tombstone" in that sentence.
"Nothing." she replied, smiling, acting as if she hadnt said anything.
"Hmmmm...." said Kio, supiciously. He raised an eyebrow.
"Down the left corridor, the 3rd door on the right." said Gladys, pointing her pen down the left hand corridor.

You need to be more detailed in the description of simple actions. "Kio woke up, today was the day..."

This could be so much more, and as the beginning of this segment, it NEEDS to stand out and catch the reader's interest.

A few other sections need to be touched up with detail, including where you describe him getting dressed.

Instead of "putting on his clothes" it could be more detailed.

Things are rarely simple and short in the real world, so they shouldn't be simple and short in your made up world either. Consider that as you continue this story, and keep up the good work!
